A Novel Approach for Predicting Human Response from ATD Tests.

چکیده
A methodology was developed for predicting the human response from ATD (Anthropomorphic Test Device) tests or for improving the biofidelity of the ATD response. The ATD response and human response are considered as the output of a black box system, from which the relationship between the ATD tests and human tests was established using wavelet analysis. Based on the decompositions of both responses on a wavelet packet basis, a mapping matrix is built after executing a procedure that includes de-noising and compression, energy distribution analysis, correlation analysis and regression analysis, and spectral coherence analysis and transfer function analysis. With the mapping matrix, an ATD response is modified or reconstructed into the corresponding human response. The practical use of the methodology was illustrated in the analysis of a series of lateral impact tests conducted on a horizontal impulse accelerator with an ATD and human volunteers as the test subjects. The predictions from the ATD tests using this method have attained significant improvement in biofidelity.

Extraction of Information from Noisy 3-year-old Atd Response Signals in Static Out-of-position Airbag Tests
This paper presents an approach to analyze experimental data contaminated with noise from Anthropomorphic Test Devices (ATDs). This approach is based on information extraction procedures and they are illustrated through an analysis of Hybrid III 3-year-old and Q3 ATDs test data. The methodology used for extracting information and ATD test data analysis includes optimized filtering, spectral coh...
متن کاملPredicting ε50 for Lateral Behavior of Piles in Marine Clay Using an Evolutionary Based Approach
Analyzing piles subjected to lateral loads significantly depends on soil resistance at any point along the pile as a function of pile deflection, known as p-y curve. On the other hand, the deformation characteristics of soil defined as “the soil strain at 50% of maximum deviatoric stress (ε50)” has considerable effect on the generated p-y curve. In this research, several models are proposed to ...
متن کاملOccupant kinematics in low-speed frontal sled tests: Human volunteers, Hybrid III ATD, and PMHS.
A total of 34 dynamic matched frontal sled tests were performed, 17 low (2.5g, Δv=4.8kph) and 17 medium (5.0g, Δv=9.7kph), with five male human volunteers of approximately 50th percentile height and weight, a Hybrid III 50th percentile male ATD, and three male PMHS. Each volunteer was exposed to two impulses at each severity, one relaxed and one braced prior to the impulse. A total of four test...
متن کاملEstimating shoulder injury risk using low rate lateral impacts to dummies.
This paper is an investigation of low rate loading of the shoulder. The paper first presents a review of the literature on the impact tolerance of the shoulder in high and low rate loading conditions. Currently, there are no injury criteria, nor biofidelic anthropomorphic test dummies for these low rate scenarios. This study investigates dummy loading situations that are known to be non-injurio...
متن کاملKinematic Comparison of Pediatric Human Volunteers and the Hybrid III 6-Year-Old Anthropomorphic Test Device.
The Hybrid III 6-year-old ATD has been benchmarked against adult-scaled component level tests but the lack of biomechanical data hinders the effectiveness of the procedures used to scale the adult data to the child. Whole body kinematic validation of the pediatric ATD through limited comparison to post mortem human subjects (PMHS) of similar age and size has revealed key differences attributed ...
